Our Story

A Small Family Farm in Virginia

Woobie Farm is a direct-to-consumer pork operation run by the Woobie Family in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Why we farm this way

Woobie Farm started with a simple question: where does our food come from? After years of buying supermarket pork without thinking twice, we wanted to know - and we wanted our family to know too. The answer turned out to be more involved than we expected, and a lot more rewarding.

Today we raise small batches of pigs on pasture here in Fredericksburg. Our pigs spend their days outside on real ground, rooting and rolling and doing pig things. They're treated like the smart, social animals they are. Nothing is rushed - pigs grow on their own timeline.

We process at a USDA federally inspected facility because food safety isn't optional for the families who buy from us. After processing, every cut comes back vacuum-sealed and flash-frozen, ready to feed your family for a full year.

We chose to go direct-to-consumer because we want a real relationship with the people eating our pork. You can come visit. You can ask questions. You'll know exactly which pig your bacon came from. That's not something the supermarket will ever offer you.

If you've ever wondered what pork is supposed to taste like, we'd love for you to find out.

How we work with the USDA processor

All our pigs are processed at a USDA federally inspected facility. That matters for two reasons:

  1. Food safety. Every step from slaughter to packaging is inspected, so you can confidently feed this pork to your kids.
  2. Legal resale. USDA inspection means we can legally sell shares to customers - most "informal" pork operations cannot.

After processing, every cut is vacuum-sealed and flash-frozen. In your freezer, it stays excellent for over a year.

Want to support the farm?

The best way to support us is to buy a hog share - that's what keeps the operation running. Customers sometimes ask if they can send something extra: we keep an Amazon wishlist of tools and supplies we'd actually use on the farm. If you've enjoyed our pork and want to give back beyond your order, the wishlist link is below.
